8th grade FCS consists of three areas of study this year.  This includes units on Personal Finance, Housing and Interior Design and Sewing.  Students will learn basic terminology with personal finance including income, expense, budget, credit and loan.  They will learn to understand the flow of money, about the banking system and why some occupations have different rates of pay.  They will learn to calculate a variety of financial transactions, how to reflect on needs and wants and define short and long term financial goals.  In the Housing and Interior Design unit of study, students will learn in more depth about color theory and the purpose and function of a home.  Then they will use their knowledge to design a room reflecting their personal style and needs using interior design technology.  Lastly, students will get the opportunity to complete a sewing project demonstrating their sewing machine skills.  This also includes knowing all of the parts, correct threading and safe usage of the sewing machine.
