Late Start

Two Hour Late Start for Friday, Feb 21st

Late Start on Friday, February 21st.

At 7 AM the National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting temperatures at -8, and wind chill values as low as -21. Temperatures will increase quickly after daybreak, with the NWS forecasting temperatures at 6 and wind chill values at -8 by 10 AM.

These conditions are not ideal but classify as a Cold Weather Advisory not an Extreme Cold Warning like Tuesday/Thursday. This Advisory ends at 9 AM.

To remain consistent with prior decisions and allow for additional precautionary measures, we are allocating extra time in the morning to address any potential bus-related concerns.  As a single-campus district, Norris School District transports over 1,700 students daily.  Additionally, the rising temperatures after daybreak will help improve conditions for students waiting at bus stops or the end of their driveways. We understand late starts are not ideal to the morning routine, however, our focus on student safety is our number one priority. These temperatures are similar to Wednesday's late start, which allowed for a safer environment for the start of school.

When there is a modification to the school day schedule, parents/guardians have the ability to excuse their student from school with no penalty when it is weather related. We appreciate your support and patience as we cycle through the coldest temperatures of the year.
