Students Recognized for Perfect NeSA Scores

Sixty-five middle school students were recognized for their academic achievement at a school assembly on Tuesday, November 24.  Students were recognized for earning perfect scores on their 2015 Nebraska State Assessments (NeSA) taken last spring.  Eleven students received perfect scores on two assessments.

Dr. John Skretta, Norris Superintendent, addressed those in attendance, including middle school students, staff and parents of the students receiving recognition.  He encouraged all students with the message, “We owe it to ourselves to get a little bit better every day and to continue to improve.  Because we are far from achieving at a tremendous level in every grade or in every measure.  We have a lot of work to do to get there.”

He added,  “Doing well is its own reward.  It’s not about external affirmation.  It’s about knowing you just accomplished something memorable and you did your best.”

Dr. Sketta concluded with a Josh Donaldson sports analogy: Failure is a necessary precursor to success.  You have to try and fail before you succeed. He struck out three times for every one time he he hit a home run last year and was the American League’s MVP.

The Norris  8th grade band, under the direction of Ms. Becky Wilhelm, provided musical entertainment during the assembly. They kicked off the assembly with our school song;  playing it publicly for their first time.
