Norris Elementary celebrates Book Week October 1-5, 2012. The Book Week Committee is excited to host Author and Illustrator David Biedrzycki! Students and staff love his great books!

The daily activities emphasize reading rather than dressing up. Daily activities are scheduled after the Pledge of Allegiance or at a more convenient time for the classroom include:  

• Monday My Favorite Books Day   Students share their favorite books.


• Tuesday Pick a Poem Tuesday.  Teachers select poetry to share with students.


• Wednesday Wild Wednesday  Read a fact book about a wild animal.


• Thursday DEAR TIME (Drop Everything And Read) day.  


• Friday Book Parade in the Halls of Norris Elementary at 8:45

Author and Illustrator David Biedrzycki will visit Norris Elementary on Friday, Oct 5, 2012.  You will find more information about Mr. Biedrzycki and his books at  http://www.davidbiedrzycki.com   All David Biedrzycki presentations will be in the High School Auditorium on Friday, October 5, 2012. Parents are invited to attend Mr. Biedrzycki's presentations with their child.

Book Parade

The Book Parade is a great way to promote reading and great books at our school!   As usual, Annette Mitchell will have the Morning Song and Pledge of Allegience at 8:37. Mrs. Mitchell will announce the start of the parade at 8:45.   David Biedrzycki will be our Grand Marshall.  Val and her team will lead the parade route. Holly Gifford will assist classes in joining the parade route.

 
Parents,
Please have your child select a favorite book character from one of the books he/she has read.  Students will come to school dressed as the character for our special book parade through the Norris Elementary Building.  As you help your child select a book character, keep it simple!  A hat makes a great costume!  Some classes may dress as characters from a book selected by the classroom.  Check with your child's teacher if you have questions.  It is important that parents send appropriate clothing both as a costume for the book character and a change of clothes for the remainder of the day!
