Norris Band headed to DC for Independence Day Parade
The Norris Marching band under the direction of Dr. Evan Lee is headed to Washington, D.C. to celebrate Independence Day as an invited participant in this year’s National Independence Day Parade in the nation’s capital.
Nowhere is there greater excitement on America's birthday than in the nation's capital. The 2015 National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C., celebrating America’s 239TH birthday, will take place at 11:45am on July 4th, on Historic Constitution Avenue – along the National Mall - from 7th to 17th Street before an enthusiastic audience of many thousands.
The Parade consists of invited bands, military and specialty units, and floats - a patriotic, flag waving, red white and blue celebration of America's birthday. The parade is hosted by the National Park Service.
The band was nominated by the office of Nebraska Congressman Jeff Fortenberry. The band then had to submit a recording, photos, and biographical information detailing experience, honors, past adjudication results, festival ratings, etc. Marching bands were selected on the basis of overall quality and geographical, ethnic and stylistic diversity.
The band will take in various cultural and historic attractions during their brief sojourn to DC, including a visit to Arlington National Cemetery and the Smithsonian Institutes. They return Sunday, July 5th.
