Gym Floor going in at your new Norris Intermediate
The gymnasium floor is being installed in the new Norris Intermediate school. The entire process is expected to take about three weeks from initial subflooring installation to sanding to the finish coat application.
Hausmann Site Superintendent Ted Shively said the floor will be "a very durable and highly playable surface."
Some features of the new gymnasium floor being installed by the experts at Midwest Flooring:
- Maple flooring
- Tongue-in-groove wood that is individually nailed
- The floor rests on a double layer of 3/4" plywood for durability, placed upon 2' X 2' rubber squares that provide additional cushion for the floor.
A permeable barrier shield restricts condensation from coming up through the concrete in application of the flooring to ensure stability and security of the floor for future years. The floorboards will be nailed down by the end of this week, with sanding and additional finish work to follow.
Athletic Director Greg Hardin noted that "Gymnasium floor use and facilities use requests for Norris from our community groups and youth teams are at an all-time high. This gymnasium will provide a valuable resource for Norris activities and our patrons for generations to come."
